The Air Force has updated the PT test entrance standards for enlisted Special Warfare candidates earlier this year. The new standards are outlined in the Physical Abilities and Stamina Test, often referred to as the PAST test. The test has updated both applicant categories and physical standards.
Candidate Breakdown
Candidate categories on the new PAST test include SWOE, AFSPECWAR, EOD & SERE:
- SWOE: Non-prior service candidates which must enter the AFSPECWAR program under the Special Warfare Open Enlistment program. Applies to Pararescue, Combat Control, Special Reconnaissance and Tactical Air Control Party.
- AFSPECWAR: Prior Service and Retraining candidates for Pararescue, Combat Control, Special Reconnaissance and Tactical Air Control Party.
- EOD: Not AFSPECWAR affiliated but due to their unique PT requirements, added to the PAST worksheet.
- SERE: Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape specialists from any candidate background. SERE is considered an AFSPECWAR enabler career field.
